Munster Junior league Div 3

08.12.2019

Mitchelstown 31 Dunmanway 12

The juniors continued on their winning league form, and were by far the better team on the day. There was a strong breeze in the first half, but little in the way of precipitation. Dunmanway opened the scoring with a well-placed kick ahead which was misjudged by the defence, and grounded for the opening score. The Boneyard men took initiative next with juggernaut Josh Evans piling through at pace following an excellent period of pick and drive to ground within kicking distance. Pa Magee duly added the points. John Landers scored a fine individual try to close the scoring for the first half. There was a veil of tears falling for the entire second half, blown relentlessly from the north which drove the spectators to shelter. Handling errors were the subject of great frustration for both sides.

Mitchelstown added a further three tries, with Magee converting a total of three. Captain Josh added to his personal tally, with a fine record of five tries in five games. Digger Dwane added a good driving try, and Jack Norris was overwhelming in scoring.

The visitors added the final flourish, and both teams and spectators alike were very grateful for the fine soup and buffet in Jackie O’Brien’s country pub aka the Tavern.

Our thanks to the proprietors for their catering for our visitors throughout the first half of the season.

Mini Rugby – CBS Field

Unfortunately the mini rugby had to be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. Please watch your texts for details of this week.

All mini rugby from 5 -11 years of age now takes place on Sundays at 11.00 am, by kind permission of the CBS school. All are assured of a warm welcome, and fun is the order of the day. Throughout the year there will be blitz tournaments and other interesting days to enjoy, and many opportunities for parents to get involved, but only if they want to.

LOTTO - € 6,200 next Sunday week for your Christmas shopping

No lottery winner last Sunday week in The Mulberry Tree, where their “Take your pick” and hospitality is well known, and where we concluded the draw. The numbers drawn were 6, 18, 19, and 20. There was no jackpot winner. Many thanks to all the staff of the bar for facilitating last week’s draw, and for the sustaining coffee. Lucky dip winners: Lorraine Philpott - €50, John Aherne - €50, Anthony Moloney - €25, -€25.

The next draw will be Sunday, 22nd December in The Fir Grove Hotel, the home of the tea dance and many local and national performers. We look forward to the hospitality of the wonderful staff with their attention to detail.

The new jackpot will be €6,200 for a single winner, or shared equally if more than one winner.

Entry is only €2 per pick of 4 numbers or 3 tickets for €5. Remember the odds of getting 4 numbers in our lottery is very close to the same as getting 4 numbers in the national lottery, but our prize is far bigger, over 25 times bigger in fact.

Annual tickets are available at €50 for 26 draws, with a bonus draw only for annuals. Contact Owen on 087-8112991 for annual tickets, or any other committee member. Rugby Club Lotto is now also available to play online at www.mitchelstownrugby.com
