LOTTO JACKPOT €10,000 -   17th October Sunday

Mitchelstown U14 Boys in fine form.

Mitchelstown RFC under 14 boys’ team was away to Douglas last Sunday morning. A lot of new players have joined the team recently,  with only a few experienced players to give leadership, but that didn't stop them dominating the first half. Mitchelstown scored very early with a try from Niall Casey who picked the ball on his own 5m line and running all the way to score under the posts.

A brilliant conversion by Colman Fagan followed. Mitchelstown continued to apply pressure and pushed Douglas back again and again, everyone giving their all and showing some great teamwork resulting in Niall Casey scoring a second try. Oden Van Der Werff our Captain showed some real strength in driving forward with several runs before he managed to break through for the third try of the game just before half time leaving ‘town with a well-deserved 17 -5 lead.

After half time the jump from half pitch to full pitch started to show in our new players allowing Douglas to even the score with three quick tries in succession. Mitchelstown again continued to learn as a team and rallied again, keeping out several attempted tries, but unfortunately Douglas pulled away with 2 more tries as we again began to show some fatigue. Mitchelstown players did not stop trying and as the second half came toward the end Mitchelstown again dug deep with every player now putting their bodies on the line with every hard fought tackle, Mitchelstown began again to press Douglas and we were rewarded with a great team try which ended with Oden Van Der Werff driving over the line to score another great try just before the last whistle.

GIRLS RUGBY FLOURISHING IN NORTH CORK

Mitchelstown RFC and Mallow RFC have amalgamated to form teams at U14 and U16 girls for the 2021/2022 season.  Both clubs have very talented girls who want to play regular rugby, so this was the best solution for both clubs.  Their first fixture was away to Bruff  last Friday night.  It was the first game at this level for most of the Mitchelstown girls.  However, this wasn’t apparent from the way they played on the night.  It was a great first experience and sets them up for more fixtures over the next few weeks.  Thanks to Bruff for looking after us so well and to  Vaughan in Mallow for facilitating the amalgamation.   The girls playing on the night were Aisling Meade, Aimee Williams, Amy Van Der Weff, Aine Hoye, Katie Finn and Hazel O'Brien.  If your daughter would like to play please message the club on Facebook where you can see all the updates on all club activities.
