The Boneyard Bulletin 04.12.18 Top of the Table Battle

Mitchelstown Rugby Club

Junior 1 Division 3 Top of the Table Battle.

Last Sunday our Juniors played host to top of the table rivals Tralee RFC.

We started up the hill and facing into the wind. Mitchelstown would control the ball from the start of the match. However we would fail to capitalize on this control with Tralee scoring first after about 10mins with an intercept try. A second try soon followed when after an infringement by a Tralee player missed by the Referee, play was allowed to continue and we were slow to react. The visitors now leading 14-0 would again come under intense pressure from Mitchelstown, this pressure would continue for the rest of the half and was awarded with penalty try after Tralee were repeatedly offside. The half would end 14-7. Mitchelstown 1st half was further worsened by the loss of Morgan Fox through injury.

We had most of the play in the second half just as the first and would even cross the line for what looked a certain try only for the grounding to be called a knock-on. Tralee were resolute defensively but offered little going forward and benefited greatly from many dubious refereeing decisions. Most of the half would pass with Mitchelstown attacking and Tralee defending with both teams having a player sent to the bin. Tralee scored a late penalty to make the final score 17-7.

We would like to thank all our supporters who came to watch and Tralee for a tough game. We would also like to wish Morgan a speedy recovery. Our next outing will be away to Kilorglin in the Martin O'Sullivan Cup.
