The Boneyard Bulletin 08.10.19

Mitchelstown Rugby Club

Munster Junior league Div 3

Mitchelstown 8 Killorglin 23

It was unseasonable weather which greeted the Kerry boys from Killorglin when they arrived at the Boneyard on Sunday last. A gentle southwesterly breeze had dried out the pitch, despite the 2 centimeters of rain which had fallen the previous day.

The game was 14 when minutes old when Chris Noonan scored a fine try, but the conversion missed narrowly. Four minutes later, the Killorglin kicker put his name on the scoreboard with a penalty. Ten minutes later the visitors took the lead with another penalty, and so it remained until Pa Magee restored the two-point advantage with a well struck kick. Unfortunately, that was to be the last home score. Killorglin restored their advantage with a try after 47 minutes, and so it remained until the last five minutes, when they added a penalty and a converted try with the last action of the game.

Both teams adjourned to Jackie O’Brien’s Bar for post- match soup and buffet sandwiches which were very welcome. Thanks to Aidan, Mary and Willie O’Brien for their hospitality.

Next week sees the long trek to Bantry Bay for a league and cup double header, rather than travel two weeks in a row. We need a win there to kick start the season proper.

Green for Ireland

All the coaches and players at training have adopted the Go Green motto in support of the Ireland team at the Rugby World Cup, please have a look at the pictures and see who you know. We need to outnumber the Samoans on Saturday with our green tide.

Mini Rugby – CBS Field

All mini rugby from 5 -11 years of age now takes place on Sundays at 11.00 am, by kind permission of the CBS school. All are assured of a warm welcome, and fun is the order of the day. Throughout the year there will be blitz tournaments and other interesting days to enjoy, and many opportunities for parents to get involved, but only if they want to.

Under 14 and minis

There will be an early start for under 14’s and minis on Saturday when they all head to Youghal for a double header. Kick off will be at 10am, and they can watch the Samoa v Ireland world cup qualifier afterwards in the club house
