The Boneyard Bulletin 26.11.19
Mitchelstown Rugby Club
Munster Junior League Div 3
24.11.2019
Mitchelstown 24 Corca Dhuibhne 0
The juniors continued on their winning league form, and were by far the better team on the day. There was a strong breeze in the first half, but little in the way of precipitation. The Boneyard men took the lead with juggernaut Josh Evans piling through at pace following an excellent period of pick and drive to ground within kicking distance. Pa Magee duly added the points to close the scoring for the first half. There was a veil of tears falling for the entire second half, most of them being shed by the Dingle Gaeltacht side. Handling errors were the subject of great frustration for both sides. However, some ten minutes into the half, Magee was again given the chance from a penalty infringement, and duly converted to lead by ten. The visitors made some attempts to broach the home defence, but to no avail. Euan Dunne was to be the next try scorer when he grounded in the corner, and despite protests from the Kerry boys, allowed the score to stand. Magee converted, creating a lead which was unlikely to be challenged.
The try of the game was the scored by the same Pa Magee when he scythed through the defence to close out the game, again converting with a drop kick. Despite their best efforts the bonus point eluded them and they will now face league leaders Ennis away, currently on top of the division. The veil of tears continues.

Mitchelstown 17 Cobh Pirates 30
On Saturday last we welcomed Cobh to Currabowen for what turned out to be a very hard fought and entertaining game in which Cobh ran out winners. Lining out with a young and inexperienced team at this level Mitchelstown were not phased and stuck skillfully and diligently to the task. While Cobh had some early success at the breakdown we quickly learned the need for fast ball was going to be a critical factor in the game. Our forwards carried a lot of heavy ball showing determination and effort while our backs ran some fantastic lines with all players being involved in some super tackling and defensive efforts. Our lineout and scrum functioned gave us a great set-piece platform. Like previous games we stuck to the task of high work rate and excellent attitude right to the end resulting in a try in the last play of the game which spanned a number of minutes of sustained pressure deep in the Cobh 22. This high work rate and energy along with the experienced gained against a very good Cobh outfit will no doubt stand to us as the season progresses.
The team lined out as follows: Cormac Noonan, Ben Cotter, Mikey O’Brien, James Keane, Sam McGrath, Darragh Casey, Jack O’Brien, Josh Kearney, Sean Gorry, Jack Kelly, Eoghan Kelly, Andrew McEnaney, Bosco Motherway, Dylan Spillane.
