The Boneyard Bulletin 16.02.20
Mitchelstown Rugby Club
A very quiet weekend on the competitive front with most fixtures being postponed or abandoned. Our under 16’s had a game under lights in Fermoy on Thursday, and the report is featured below.
Mini Rugby – CBS Field
All mini rugby from 5 -11 years of age now takes place on Sundays at 11.00 am, by kind permission of the CBS school. All are assured of a warm welcome, and fun is the order of the day. Throughout the year there will be blitz tournaments and other interesting days to enjoy, and many opportunities for parents to get involved, but only if they want to.
Keep in touch with your coaches for details of this weekend.

Mitchelstown vs. Fermoy under 16s Match Report 13/2/2020
They say a match is the best training sessions you can ask for and that’s what we got last Thursday under lights in Fermoy. The Mitchelstown squad on the night was as follows:
Cormac and James Luddy, Tommy Long, Leon Fitzharris, Gabriel Casey, Aaron Hickey, Ryan O’Neill, Killian Atkins, Jack O’Grady, Ronan O’Grady, Brendan O’Donoghue, Ryan O’Brien, Seán Hanrahan, Louis Gorey, Billy White and Aaron O’Donnell.
Our lads very much a development team with 5 players playing in their first rugby match were caught cold at the start of the match with Fermoy using their experience and speed to get on the outside and get the game’s first few scores. Mitchelstown settled into the game, and as our tackling improved so did our time on the ball. Every ruck seemed like a fierce competition and hard fought battle to retain possession. For a period in the first half Mitchelstown went phase after phase of sustained pressure with the ball until the pressure finally paid off with Tommy Long going over for a try which he converted himself. The first half ended with both sides vying for the next score.
Fermoy started the start the second half the same as the first very fast and targeted the wide channels. It took our lads time to get back into the swing of the things, but with so many new players it was to be expected. One experienced player who stood out was Jack O’Grady who seemed to be at the heart of all the good play Mitchelstown did, from his impressive tackling, open play running and his dart like throws at lineout time. Tommy would get over late for his 2nd try of the game again converting, the lads would continue to push for more with Ryan O’Brien just short of scoring on his debut with a bruising run.
The game finished with a loss for Mitchelstown but it was night where the result didn’t matter, as we wanted some new lads to experience what a hard rugby match is all about. Exhausting, but some good craic also.
We will be back training Thursday night at 7:30pm at Currabowen. Thanks to all those supported the lads on a very cold night.
