Junior clubs challenge shield
Galbally/Mitchelstown 35 Ballincollig 10
There was no rain falling when the adults took the field on Sunday last, though there was a chilling breeze coming over the Ballyhoura hills. Heavy overnight rain made for soft going, and there was a significant number of absentees from the home team panel.
GM opened the scoring after three minutes with a sweetly struck penalty from Kearns. Retaliation was slow in coming, with Ballincollig pressing hard and eventually after eighteen minutes they scored a fine try which put them ahead for the first and only time in the match.
Within five minutes, after great rucking, Jack Norris powered over to increase the lead to thirteen points, with Jack Donovan scoring a try as well. The first half ended with a classy back’s try from Euan Dunne, the conversion stretching the lead to twenty points.
The second half started like the first, with the home side scoring a penalty to make it a four score task for Ballincollig, which one felt was beyond their reach. This proved to be the case, and they were limited to a consolation try after Frank Cussen had crossed the line with a few minutes left.
Our next game is scheduled for Sunday 27th in the Junior league Section B, at home to Ennis with a 2:30pm kick off.
