Mitchelstown Rugby Club

Galbally/Mitchelstown notes

Junior League Section B

It was strange to hear on the radio last Sunday that football in Monaghan was played in bright sunshine, and racing in Navan was taking place in 17oC of heat, while our away game to Youghal was cancelled. However, the joys of living in this hallowed land are many, including the unpredictability of the weather.

All roads lead to Galbally on Sunday next with Ballincollig the guests in the Junior Clubs Challenge Shield, with a 2:00pm kick off.

Under 16 Mitchelstown boys

On Saturday last we hosted Dungarvan in our final game of the phase of the league. The opening half saw us produce some of the best rugby we’ve played all season against a very strong away team who travelled with a large squad. After conceding a try after 5 minutes we bounced back almost immediately with a fine try finished off in the corner after a mazy run from our out-half Darragh Casey. We were unlucky on a number of occasions being help up close to the line and were very unfortunate to slip a try on the stroke of half time to leave us trailing 17-05 at the break. We worked tirelessly in the second half but Dungarvan were able introduce a number of fresh legs throughout this half and this ultimately proved the difference. We never flagged and continued working relentlessly which resulted in a great try scored from close in after a large period of sustained pressure within their 22.

While the score line went against us the performance and spirit shown was the key factor for us and we go into the 2nd phase of the league with a lot to look forward to. We are always adding numbers to our squad and with there being no cut-off date we welcome anybody who might be interested in joining us.

Team from: Lorcan Murray, James Kennedy, Cian O’Donnell, Victor Parra, Eoin Lynch, Darragh Casey, Gearoid Desmond (C), Jayden Lynch, Aidan O’Mahony, Sean Gorry, Jack Kelly, Eoghan Kelly, Jack Kearney, Will Murphy, Ben Cooke

This game was an all-round whole team & subs performance providing us with a massive confidence boost and gives us a positive platform to build on. Our next game is on Saturday 12th November at home to Dungarvan in Currabowen at 1300.

Under 12 mini rugby

Muskerry Minis came to visit Currabowen on Saturday last 12th  November. This was the first game for many of our  players.

Players played over 2 pitches divided by age, the younger u7 players showing good skills and great running. U9s showed some great passages of play, great team work which resulted in great scores.
