Our junior team travelled to Youghal Saturday evening for a cup match against the home side. Short a number of players due to other commitments, this was always going to be a tough battle against a Youghal team who have started the season strongly.
Youghal aided by a strong breeze started strongly and got over for an unconverted try after 5 minutes of play. Our lads defended resolutely for the first half against sustained pressure from the home side. Youghal eventually got over in the corner for a second try, leaving the score 10 - 0 at half time.
With only two subs available to us on the night, the second half was always going to be an uphill battle and Youghal added a further three tries. We got a try ourselves through Mikey O'Dea after a long passage of play from our forwards, Pa Shanahan converted. The match finished 27-7. We will look forward to welcoming Youghal to Galbally in January for the league fixture.
