Mitchelstown RFC vs Ballincollig under 14s Match Report 019/10/2024
Our under 14s squad travelled to Ballincollig for a 3pm kick-off on Saturday. After some back and
forth play from both sides, Ballincollig went ahead through their outside centre who would prove
the difference between both sides on the day, through shear speed. Our lads rallied with 2 tries of
their own coming courtesy of Cathal Meade, our first try being the pick of the pair with smooth as
butter backs move and brilliant skill and strength from Joe Gallagher down the left wing before
Cathal powered over the line.
The 2nd half got off to a tough start with Ballincollig getting a break away try against the run of play.
The lads fought back through some fierce tackling in particular from Dean Slyne and Liam Drake, our
discipline throughout the game showed with the opposition give away several penalties. Our final
score of the game came through our Captain Issac going over after sustained pressure from town in
the opposition 22. Cathal Meade added a sweetly struck conversion. The final score was 45-17 to
Ballincollig but for the 2 nd game in row the scoreline doesn’t reflect the effect and performance from
this team. Our squad on the day was: Aaron Horgan, Josh Keane, Killian O’Grady, Finbarr Danne,
Liam Drake, Tom Walsh, Dean Slyne, Issac Keneally, Rory McCarthy, Cathal Meade, Harry Finn, Joe
Gallagher, Mark Williams, Tom O’Regan, Evan Holland.
Thanks for all the travelling support from the parent as always, its brilliant to have the lads cheered
one from the sideline. Thanks also to Ballincollig for the refreshments after the game. We will be
training every Thursday night at 7pm at Currabowen any new players welcome. Our next match will
be at home to Dolphin Saturday November 2nd .
