Match Report U14's V Fermoy RFC 15.11.24

MRFC 32 - Fermoy RFC 5

On Saturday, our Under 14s squad faced the local Fermoy side in a thrilling match that kicked off at 12 pm. From the outset, it was clear that our team was determined to secure a victory, with Joe Gallagher making a brilliant run right from the kick-off to score the opening try. The first half showcased a competitive clash, with both teams exchanging tries; Tom Walsh followed up with a superb score after a fantastic kick return. While our scrum faced challenges in maintaining consistency, our line-out functioned seamlessly, thanks to Anthony O’Flynn’s pinpoint accuracy.

As the first half drew to a close, Mitchelstown found themselves camped on the Fermoy try line, but the score remained at 10-5 in our favour as the whistle blew. The second half continued in the same vein, with Cathal Meade and Rory McCarthy displaying impressive kicking skills that kept Fermoy on the back foot. Our defence stepped up when needed, with standout performances from players like Harry Finn, who made a number of significant tackles that resulted in turnovers.

A well-struck penalty from Cathal extended our lead, and with fresh legs from subs PJ, Oisin, and Evan, our team began to gain control. Joe and Tom each added their second tries, with Isaac Kenneally finally breaking through after several near misses. The match concluded with a convincing 32-5 win for our lads.

We would like to express our gratitude to all the parents and club members for their unwavering support and also thank Fermoy RFC for their hospitality post-match. Training continues every Thursday at 7 pm at Currabowen, and we welcome new players. Our next match is at home against Youghal RFC on Saturday, November 30th.
