MRFC Jan 12th Weekend Match Reports

Juniors:

Waterford City 19 Galbally/Mitchelstown 17

Our juniors had their first outing of 2025 on Sunday away against Waterford City. We kicked off with the wind at our backs and were quick out of the blocks. After good defensive pressure, we had an attacking lineout inside the 22, some big carries from our forwards lead to a try for Daniel Gleeson, which was converted by Pa Shanahan. Shortly afterwards we won a penalty which Pa Shanahan also kicked. The rest of the first half was very even with huge defensive sets from both teams. We went into half time 10-0 up. The home team started the second half strongly and had a try on the board after a few minutes of the restart. We struck back and got a try through Davi Norris after a number of phases, this was again converted by Pa Shanahan.  Waterford were not finished yet and got a converted try to leave it a 3 point match heading into the closing stages. Waterford then got a try in the last minute of the game to seal the victory for the home side. A disappointing result but we are very proud of the effort from all the squad that travelled. Notable performances from Jack Norris, Daniel Gleeson and Pa Shanahan.

Squad: Jack Norris, Kevin Cooke, Davi Norris, Joe Hennessy, Michael Brazil Carroll, Liam Molan, Andrew McEnaney, Daniel Gleeson, Danny McGrath, Pa Shanahan, Mikey O'Dwyer, Peter O'Dwyer, Daniel Blade, Con Dunne, Euan Dunne, Jack Hogan, Ed Noonan, Lewis Stewart.

U18.5:

Mitchelstown 12 St. Marys/Richmond/Thomond 16

On Sunday last we hosted the Limerick amalgamation of St. Marys/Richmond/Thomond in what turned out to be a very intense and physical game. Having gone 3 behind from a penalty we quickly got ourselves back into the game with a close range try from Ben Cooke. Another penalty and try from the limerick outfit left us 05-13 down at the break. The second half continued as the first left off and another penalty seen us 11 points down going into the final quarter. Another close range try again from Ben Cooke and converted by Dan Turley left just 4 between us. We dominated the final exchanges but unfortunately just could not force our way over the line with the game finishing 12-16. This was a huge effort and massive work rate from every player involved.

Our next fixture is home to Kanturk on Saturday at 1400.
