MRFC March 2nd Weekend Match Reports

U18.5

On Sunday last we hosted near neighbours Fermoy in the quarter final of the Munster Bowl. Given we were down a number of key players this was always going to be a tough game. The first half was incredibly close with us responding to two Fermoy penalties when Jack Twomey finished off a brilliantly worked try. A great take from a lineout on the left side of the pitch resulted in a straight from the training ground pre-called play being finished in the opposite corner by Jack. Turning around in the second half we were optimistic but unable to make inroads against an opposition who were able to rotate and keep freshness in the team. A consolation try in the last play of the game by outhalf Riley O’Hanlon showed our commitment to full game work rate leaving the final score at 10-25.

Team from; Remo Chialastri, Conor Dooling, Tommy English, Ben Cooke, Will Murphy, Darragh Casey, Ryan Nolan, Sean O’Grady, Jack Twomey, Divino Da Silva, Oden van der Werff, Jack O’Brien, Dylan Spillane, Riley O’Hanlon, Dan Turley, Sean Gorry, Aidan O’Mahony

U14:

Our under 14s squad travelled the long journey to Dunmanway RFC for a 12pm kick-off on Saturday. We travelled with a smaller squad this week as we were missing some players through injury and holidays. Our lads were brave throughout the game but were over matched in terms of size and speed without some of key players being missing. The game got away from us early and despite a great effort our lads never got a foothold in the game. The best part of the day was our 2 new players Jayden and Aaron making their debut for the club. The final score was 33-0.

Our Squad on the day was as follows: Tom O’Regan, Josh Keane, Killian O’Grady, Finbar Danne, Liam Drake, Jayden O’Brien, Aaron Horgan, Cathal Meade, Joe Gallagher, Darragh Finn, Luke Walsh, Evan Holland, Aaron Coleman-Roche, Mark Williams, Oisin Heaphy, Harry Finn, Rory McCarthy.

Thanks to Dunmanway RFC for the great hospitality after the game, always appreciated when travelling that far and being looked after so well. We are away to Bantry RFC on Saturday March 8th for the South Munster Development league Semi Final.
