MRFC March 8th Weekend Match Reports

U14:

On Saturday last we travelled by bus to Bantry to play a semi-final of the League Cup.  It was raining on the journey down but thankfully stayed dry for the match.

In the first half we received the kick-off and spent 90% of the time in the Bantry half. The team had spent training on Tuesday and Thursday working on line speed and protecting the ball in the ruck, this added to first time tackling did not let Bantry out of their half. Following a held up try a quick tap and go by Isaac Kenneally was called back, points were taken following a penalty to have Mitchelstown 0-3 up at half time.

The second half Bantry scored quickly with a converted try and scored a second soon after playing with the slight slope on the pitch. We got close to the line a number of times before eventually scoring, Harry Finn went over the line, with less than 10 minutes, leaving score 14-8.

In what was a very intense last few minutes Mitchelstown played all the rugby with ball in hand to aim for that winning score, it was not to be. The ferocious play right through the match took its toll. Final score 14-8.  The Mitchelstown players all played out of their skin and did everything they were asked to do on the field, playing together and for each other.

A special note of thanks to the Bantry coaches, following the game Bantry organised a room for both teams where they shared Pizza and watched the 6 Nations Ireland v France match.
