Match Report U16's v Ballincollig RFC 20.09.2025

Mitchelstown RFC hosted Ballincollig RFC on Saturday 20th September.

It was a lovely sunny morning in Currabowen, a great day for a rugby match, and for supporters.  Mitchelstown RFC received the ball from the start, Tom Walsh caught the ball and ran down the right wing and scored an amazing try within 15 seconds from the whistle.  Mitchelstown 5-0 as the conversion didn't go over from the far side line.  Mitchelstown had most of the possession in the first half and were in Ballincollig RFC 22 meter line three times without return.

Due to a number of forced changes the scrum was under pressure at times but Mitchelstown RFC did well to hold their own.  The line-outs again this week were very strong with Michael Coughlan plucking his own ball and the oppositions out of the sky.  Michael was lifted by Killian O'Grady and Jake Sheedy. The first half ended 5-0 to Mitchelstown RFC.

Ballincollig RFC got off to an early start in the second half with a try under the posts and converted the try 5-7 to Ballincollig RFC.  The game ebbed and flowed with Mitchelstown RFC getting two penalties and deciding to go for the posts after a break in play.  A yellow card was issued to a Ballincollig RFC player.  Cathal Meade converted one and narrowly missed the other with the TMO nearly being required to assist, score 8-7 with 10 minutes to go. Mitchelstown RFC continued to scramble for possession losing some ball in the breakdown, Ballincollig RFC got a break down the right wing and scored in the last minute to go 8-12 up.  There were players flat out on their feet after the effort to stop the phase play and the game finished 8-12 to Ballincollig RFC.  Mitchelstown had a lot of possession and will take the learnings from the game but will feel that they left a result behind them.
