Weekend Roundup Oct 20th 2025

Juniors:

On Sunday last we were away to Waterford City in a Cup fixture, this was a late scheduled game and as a result we were down a number of players. With us having a large squad this season this meant we were able to give valuable gametime to the full squad. With only 1 point between us with 10 mins to go we had a few enforced changes and City slipped a couple of scores to leave the game finishing 23-12.

U18.5’s:

On Friday last we played a home fixture in our amalgamation with Kilfeacle when we took on Clonmel on a perfect evening. After an even opening 15 minutes Clonmel got in for a try to open the scoring. We regrouped well and fought our way back into the game when Eoin Lynch powered over from short range after multiple phases within the 5m line. Clonmel in turn hit back and brought the score to 12-05 at half time. The 2nd half continued in the same physical vein in a very even contest. We got back on the scoreboard through a wonderful try when our No8 Aaron O’Dwyer made a surging run, offloading as he was going to ground Hooker Matthew O’Neill received and transferred out to Wing Cormac Hoye who had a lot of work to do to get over the line. We controlled possession from here on but could not find that last score and so the game finished 10-12.

U16’s:

Mitchelstown U16 were away to Carrick-on-Suir RFC on Friday 17 October at 7pm, under lights. It was a mild dry evening for October and the ground was dry also which gave us ideal conditions for what turned out to be a very competitive game. Carrick-on-Suir got off to a fast start with 2 tries within 10 minutes, with a big forward breaking through the defence from a few meters out. 12-0.

Having recovered quite quickly from this Mitchelstown played most of the rest of the first half in the Carrick-on-Suir half. We were unlucky to have lost the ball on the try line twice in this period of play with no return.

In the second half Mitchelstown RFC started well

when Will Howard scored an outstanding try from a well worked team position with some great individual skill and determination to get over the line. This was followed by a classy conversion from Cathal Meade. 12-7. Unfortunately, after that effort Carrick-on-Suir got in for another try and conversion shortly afterwards. 19-7. Following this score, we controlled possession and forced a number of penalties on their own line but ultimately were unlucky to score when in possession within 5 meters of the line in different phases, Cathal Meade, Mark O'Regan,  Warren Murray-O'Neill, Luke Slyne and Jake Sheedy.

The players have been working really hard on defence in training forced a number of knock-on's and turnovers with our defensive line speed and better protecting at the ruck.

Thanks to Carrick-on-Suir RFC for the hospitality after the match.
