Galbally/Mitchelstown Rugby V Douglas RFC 25.01.2026
Galbally/Mitchelstown v Douglas RFC
Galbally/Mitchelstown claimed a hard-fought 19–18 victory over Douglas RFC in this Munster Junior League Division 3 clash, edging a tense encounter thanks to their superiority at scrum and lineout time.
Douglas struck first in the opening half with an early try, putting the visitors briefly on the front foot. Galbally/Mitchelstown responded well, settling into the game through their forwards, who quickly began to assert control at the set piece. That dominance provided the platform for Graham Bourke to cross for Galbally/Mitchelstown’s opening try, which he converted himself to give the home side a 7–5 lead at the interval.
Douglas narrowed the gap early in the second half with a penalty, but Galbally/Mitchelstown hit back strongly. Sustained pressure, built once again on a solid scrum and reliable lineout ball, allowed Davi Norris to power over for a try, converted by Bourke to restore the home side’s advantage. Douglas replied with another penalty to keep the scoreboard ticking over, but Galbally/Mitchelstown continued to press and were rewarded when Norris grabbed his second try of the afternoon, this time unconverted.
The contest remained finely balanced heading into the closing stages. Douglas mounted one final surge and were rewarded with a converted try, bringing them within a single point. However, Galbally/Mitchelstown held their nerve in the closing minutes, closing out the game with strong defensive work and continued authority up front to secure a deserved 19–18 win.
