Weekend Roundup Nov 29th 2025

U18.5’s:

We recently hosted Waterford City in the final game of Phase 1 of the Munster competition. This was a very even game in what turned out to be a physically demanding game with two great tries from Eoin Lynch and Darragh O’Dwyer bringing us into halftime at 10-10. The 2nd half continued in the same vein and a fantastic try into the corner by wing Cormac Hoye finished off a move of 10+ phases where we showed huge composure to keep hold of possession deep inside the 22. Waterford struck back and with the score standing at 15-15 in the last minute, we were awarded a penalty which was kicked by Oden van der Werff to give us a dramatic 3 point win which was hugely celebrated.

Team from: Michael Heffernan, Evan Sticks O’Regan, Ryan McGrath, Oden van der Werff, Cormac Hoye, James Bateman, James O’Dwyer, Eoin Lynch, Darragh Dwyer, Jason O’Brien, Eoghan Kelly, Liam Bourke, Liam Kelly, Matthew O’Neill, Aidan O’Mahony, Jack Kelly

U14’s:

Mitchelstown RFC vs Highfield RFC

Our under 14s hosted Highfield RFC for an 12:30pm kick-off on Saturday. The weather for the match was perfect for a good game of rugby and that’s wat we got. Our lads started strong controlling possession and territory. The lads were very discipline in their approach, showing all the skills, we have been working on in training recently. We thought we had scored the first try of the game, but unfortunately it was called back for an infringement in the lead up. Highfield made a couple of breaks but our lads showed great determination to not let them score especially when Highfield looked like they had a break away try only for Evan Holland to make a superb recovery tackle and Ryan Kinsella to follow up at the break down and win a penalty. The half would end 0-0, a great half from our lads putting the league leaders under pressure and matching them throughout.

The 2nd half began and Highfield came out firing and put us under savage pressure and that pressure lead to our lads making clearing kick after kick and in the chaos Highfield would score the first try. The pressure continued and another score for Highfield happened, but our lads didn’t give up. They put together some good phase play and were camped on the Highfield try line, they managed to turnover the ball but it was over their own line and our scrumhalf Aaron Horgan knowing the rules better then most, put pressure on the Highfield 9 and ended it with a try, he also followed up with a superb conversion. Our lads started to get tired after a massive effort and a clearing kick was charged down late in the game and Highfield got their 3rd try. The match finished 19-7 in favour of Highfield but our lads played brilliantly. Our team on the day was: Liam Drake(Captain), Jamie Dooley, Ciaran Gallagher, Ryan Kinsella , Evan Holland, Zack Wims, Alex Creed, Darren Cunningham, Matty Coughlan, Fionn McLaughlan, Oisin Heaphy, Issac Walsh, Jacob Stack, Senan McCormick, Aaron Horgan.

Mitchelstown RFC vs Fermoy RFC

Our under 14s squad recently travelled to Fermoy on a brilliant morning for a game of rugby and that’s what we were treated to a great game of rugby by 2 every even and well-matched sides. Our lads started stronger and through our forwards we managed to take a lead through some good strong running. Both sides didn’t give an inch, and it was very back and forth with both teams taking chances only to be met with a solid tackle, turnover or great clearance kick like our own Matty Coughlan who pluck the ball out the air tiptoed the sideline and managed a clearing kick with his weaker left leg, savage play for under 14s!

The 2nd half continued the same as the first very close and Fermoy found there attacking rhythm through their backs while our lads continued to power through and going into the last stage of the math Fermoy took the lead but our lads were not going to be denied and after savage pressure put on the Fermoy tryline we finally got what proved to be the winning score. Fermoy to their credit continued to try and get the winning score, but  our lads held on for massive win. The final score would be 17-14 to Mitchelstown, team: Liam Drake(Captain), Dean Slyne, Ciaran Gallagher, Ryan Kinsella , Evan Holland, Zack Wims, Alex Creed, Darren Cunningham, Matty Coughlan, Fionn McLaughlan, Oisin Heaphy, Oran Fox, Jamie Dooley, Aaron Horgan.

Minis:

We travelled to Kilfeacle where we took part in a fantastic morning of U6, 8, 10 & 12’s with the hosts, Thurles and Waterford. This was a most enjoyable outing with a lot of skill, enthusiasm and energy on show.
