Weekend Roundup Jan 25th 2026
Juniors:
Galbally/Mitchelstown claimed a hard-fought 19–18 victory over Douglas RFC in this Munster Junior League Division 3 clash, edging a tense encounter thanks to their superiority at scrum and lineout time.
Douglas struck first in the opening half with an early try, putting the visitors briefly on the front foot. Galbally/Mitchelstown responded well, settling into the game through their forwards, who quickly began to assert control at the set piece. That dominance provided the platform for Graham Bourke to cross for Galbally/Mitchelstown’s opening try, which he converted himself to give the home side a 7–5 lead at the interval.
Douglas narrowed the gap early in the second half with a penalty, but Galbally/Mitchelstown hit back strongly. Sustained pressure, built once again on a solid scrum and reliable lineout ball, allowed Davi Norris to power over for a try, converted by Bourke to restore the home side’s advantage. Douglas replied with another penalty to keep the scoreboard ticking over, but Galbally/Mitchelstown continued to press and were rewarded when Norris grabbed his second try of the afternoon, this time unconverted.
The contest remained finely balanced heading into the closing stages. Douglas mounted one final surge and were rewarded with a converted try, bringing them within a single point. However, Galbally/Mitchelstown held their nerve in the closing minutes, closing out the game with strong defensive work and continued authority up front to secure a deserved 19–18 win.
It was a full-squad effort for Galbally/Mitchelstown, with valuable contributions from:

U18.5’s
On Sunday last Mitchelstown/Kilfeacle travelled to Dunmanway to take on Clonakilty/Dunmanway in Round 3 of the Munster Bowl. Clon/Dunmanway settled the quicker and quickly ran up 3 converted tries before we struck back through DJ Leopold. Clon/Dunmanway got back on the scoresheet almost immediately for what turned out to be their last score of the game leaving us facing a 28-05 deficit at half time. The pace of the game increased straight from the restart kick off and it was obvious quite quickly that the momentum was behind us and that the game was still in reach. We completely dominated territory and began racking up the scores with tries from Eoin Lynch (1), Aidan O’Mahony (1) and Aaron O’Dwyer (2). The last of these tries proved decisive coming minutes from the end after Aaron showed brilliant control at the back of a scrum, picking and blasting through 2 defenders to get over the line with Sean White brilliantly adding his 3rd conversion of the day to give us a 28-31 win. This was a great result for us on the road particularly without a number of players missing through injury/illness and sets us up nicely for the last game of the group stage against Cashel on Friday 30th in Kilfeacle at 19.30.

U16’s:
Our U16’s were away to Thomond/Richmond RFC on Sunday 25th where we got off to a strong start winning an early scrum and getting into the opposition 22. Thomond countered and we had to defend. The players worked together and worked the ball up the pitch to get over for a try by Daire Burke after nearly 10 phases of play. Will Howard converted [0-7].Thomond scored a try in response with a strong run by their full back. [5-7].
Following the restart we built a number of phases of play to keep the opposition under pressure, they were rewarded with another try this time by Isaac Kenneally. [5-12]. From the restart Thomond RFC scored quickly with another skillful run on the outside.[12-12]. The first half finished with us camped on the opposition line and a number of penalties, including a yellow card given by the opposition, however we couldn't score and the ball got turned over.
The second half started with us scoring again with a well worked team try by the forwards and some great individual skill for Daire Burke scoring a second try, converted by Will Howard [12-19]. Thomond defended well in the second half but we managed to break them down and scored again with a well worked try from Will Howard who added the conversion to have us running out winners on the scoreline of 12-26.
Thanks to all the parents for their support and for travelling and to Thomond Richmond for the hospitality after the match.
