Weekend Round Up Oct 19th
Galbally-Mitchelstown Juniors 19–17 Corca Dhuibhne/Dingle - Martin O’Sullivan Cup
Galbally-Mitchelstown Juniors secured their place in the last eight of the competition following a tense 19–17 victory on Sunday afternoon.
Playing their second competitive game of the season and their first cup fixture, Galbally-Mitchelstown started brightly. David Norris crossed for the opening try, with Graham Burke adding the conversion to give the home side an early 7–0 lead.
The visitors responded with a penalty to reduce the deficit to 7–3, but Galbally-Mitchelstown struck again before the break. Conor Sheehan went over for the home side's second try, with Burke once again adding the conversion to make it 14–3 at half-time.
The second half developed into a much tighter contest, with much of the play taking place between the 22's and in the Galbally-Mitchelstown half.
The home side eventually added their third try through Jack Donovan to move the score to 19–10, setting up a nervous closing period.
There were a few changes from Galbally-Mitchelstown as the visitors applied sustained pressure late in the game. That pressure eventually resulted in a converted try with only a few minutes remaining, cutting the advantage to just two points.
It proved to be the final score of the afternoon, and Galbally-Mitchelstown held on for a hard-earned 19–17 victory.
The result sees the Juniors progress to the last eight of the competition, where an away fixture v Fethard RFC awaits.
Well done to the players and management on a great cup win and another valuable competitive outing early in the season.
Mallow RFC V Mitchelstown- Fermoy- Galbally 18.5’s
Today the 18.5 were away to Mallow RFC and it was a bright and crisp start. This is our fifth game in a row. Mitchelstown- Fermoy- Galbally started strong and worked from the start to score a well worked team try after 5 minutes, Cormac Hoey converted by Harry Insley. (0-7) Mallow responded quickly with a try without a conversion (5-7). Mitchelstown- Fermoy- Galbally played well, probably the best performance so far with good shape in attack and defence. We had a number of chances turned over within 5m of the Mallow line. Mallow scored just before half time without a conversion to lead 10-7.
Mallow scored another try without converting, Mitchelstown- Fermoy- Galbally Scored a penalty by Harry Insley. Mallow kicked a penalty in the last 2 minutes in front of the goals to win 18-10.
This group is gelling well together and are a fine bunch of young men, more to come from this group of players. We train every Wednesday.

Another game, another win for our U16s, who made it five wins from five with a strong performance against Carrick-on-Suir.
Our lads started brightly, with Cathal Meade crossing for an early try. Further tries from Antony Flynn and Brian Walsh, along with two Cathal conversions, saw us take a deserved 19–0 lead into half-time.
The second half began at a frantic pace, with Micheal Davern and Cathal both touching down before Carrick responded with a converted try of their own. Brian and Micheal then added their second tries of the afternoon, either side of Carrick’s second converted try, to secure a comfortable 43–14 victory.

Mitchelstown RFC-GRFC 31- 31 Youghal RFC U14s
Our amalgamated Mitchelstown-Galbally under 14’s side travelled Youghal RFC for a 12:00 kick-off on a beautiful Saturday morning for our 2nd league game. We started strong with the first score and some lovely play overall, nice crisp passing and good support running. Youghal pressed hard and from their set pieces they managed to keep in touch with us. With the first half ending Scott Coughlan managed a break down the wing but was stopped just short of the line, Jamie Collins was quickest to react and recycled the ball before John Condon went over to make the half-time score 21-10.
Youghal started the stronger team in the second half and before we knew it, we were down 24-21. The lads did not panic and got into their rhythm, strong carries by our forwards and smooth passing in our backs we got a score through Scott Coughlan. We put on the pressure, but a loose ball allowed Youghal to score a break away try and get the lead late in the game. Our lads were relaxed, they knew they could give themselves a chance. Through serious phase play we attacked, all 15 players on the pitch doing their part. We pressed and just when it looked like a clearing kick from Youghal was it, Billy Roche, who had been solid all game at fullback for the first time, caught it on the running and one slick step later we back camped in the 5 metre line pushing for the score to bring s back level and just like he had in the first half John Condon powered over for his 2nd try. The game would end in a 31-31 draw both sides giving everything they could to win.
Our team on the day was: Billy Tyndall(C) Scott Coughlan (VC), Kieran Stewart, Pearce O’Sullivan, Eoin O’Donnell, Tadhg O’Brien, Jim Drake, Bobby Donovan, Cian O’Mahony, Jack Mullaly, Jacob Greaves, Jonathan Greaves, Robby Joe Cunningham, Robert Fitzgerald, Jamie Collins, John Condon, Billy Roche, Daniel Stapleton, Jamie Dooley.
Thanks for all the travelling support, it is brilliant to have the lads cheered on from the sideline and thanks to Youghal RFC for hosting and the all the refreshments after the game were appreciated. We will be training every Tuesday night at 7:30pm at Currabowen, Mitchelstown P67H324 and every Thursday night in Galbally E34PH92, any new players welcome.
