Mitchelstown Rugby Club
Under 16 boys excellent in defeat
Sunday’s Well 50 Mitchelstown 26
On Sunday last we travelled to Musgrave to take on the hosts Sunday’s Well. With weather and pitch conditions being ideal this aided a very entertaining game between 2 evenly matched teams. We more than held our own for the first 15 minutes however a couple of defensive lapses seen us concede tries in quick succession. We worked hard to get back into the game and with some great work after a brilliant kick from our outhalf Diarmuid O’Brien we scored a great try by Josh Kearney. This score gave us the confidence that we could create our own scores. The 2nd half continued in the same vein with some ferocious tackling and heavy carrying opening up opportunities for Josh Kearney to again cross the try line twice and a great effort from Diarmuid O’Brien who added a try and 3 conversions to his tally.
While we ultimately lost the game we had a number of new players who were featuring for the first time all of whom grew into the game as they gained confidence from the established players around them. Our rucking, counter-rucking, scrummaging and lineout work was immense and this gives us a solid platform to build on to carry on into the season.
With this phase of league games being completed we will be playing a number of friendly games in the coming weeks as we prepare for the next phase of cup and league games.
